In my connecting with depression sufferers, I have learned that much depression, including my own in the past, is indeed caused by anger and bitterness caused by hurt done by others.
In connecting with one depression sufferer in particular who courageously has chosen to move forward in their healing journey which will require safely addressing one who has caused hurt, I heard these words spoken…
“If you don’t do something for fear sake, it’s just going to get uglier.”
Hearing these words, I immediately wrote them down and I have gone back to them in prayer, remembering also these words…
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
(Luke 22:42 )
It makes me ponder that if Jesus had allowed fear to prevent him from being our sacrifice, you and I would still be killing lambs. He not only confronted but defeated THE (Capital A) Abuser. Jesus’ perfect love for you and I cast out any fear He may have had.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
(1 John 4:18)
So, again the quote that I’ve been pondering and praying over lately is…
“If you don’t do something for fear sake, it’s just going to get uglier.”
… and indeed if Jesus had not perfectly loved you and I, our sin problem would just be getting uglier…
