“God, what are you thankful for?”

Yesterday, it occurred to me to ask God – what HE was thankful for.

What a new thought!

AND… the thoughts and impressions that came were a sweet surprise!

I invite you to ask Him today.

And notice what comes.

For me…?

I felt the Lord say:

“I’m so thankful that you are finally opening up to receiving more of my love.”

That surprised me!

Then, I realized what He meant. I feel I’m in a season of my life that I have experienced a great deal of contentment – no matter what has been going on! (I cannot believe I just wrote that!)

And then I realize why…

This past week, in our FCC zooms, we had a powerful time meditating on Psalm 131:

O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;

my eyes are not raised too high;

I do not occupy myself with things

too great and too marvelous for me.

But I have calmed and quieted my soul,

like a weaned child with its mother;

like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the Lord

from this time forth and forevermore. (ESV)

To me, David seems to say:

Focus not on self… (pride can look also like self-protection and relying on one’s own strength),

…or being overwhelmed with matters way beyond us (for me – um, I think of – world news and politics… ugh),

…but instead…

Go and be still, sit with God, focus on Him, and LET HIM FEED me. It is there, that I can be content and be well fed.

David ends with: put your hope in the Lord forever!

Yes, yes, yes!

I think I’m finally learning to be WELL FED by the Lord, sitting with Him, Loved by Him, and focusing on Him.

Last night, a family member and I were reflecting on how we so enjoy being together as family – and how rare that is – for the friends he works with…. and some of the clients I walk with…

Being intentional with our family, being delighted to be with each other, loving the Lord and receiving His love… is a gift …that many do not yet know.

David experienced this himself – rejected by his own son. Yet, David knew He could be loved and welcomed by God and be well fed by Him.

Last night, tears fell …thinking of those who are not welcomed by their own families. This might be you reading this…

If you are, or aren’t welcomed by your own community…

I invite you to ask God:

“What are YOU thankful for, God?”

Let your heart …hear HIS heart for you…

Simply notice what comes.

(Reject any negative thoughts and keep listening for those encouraging words from God.)

Feel free to share in the comments below or in our Sacred Space FB Group what you sense Him saying…

(Ps. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! Yup, we celebrate ours in October.)
