Every year, I deeply feel this time.
The days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve hold a unique stillness—a pause in the busyness of life. The celebrations of Christmas have passed, and the anticipation of a new year lies ahead. It’s during this in-between time that emotions and thoughts often bubble to the surface.
For many, this can be a deeply reflective season.
Joy,
gratitude,
regrets,
or even unspoken dreams might surface.
The key?
Pay attention.
Listen to your heart, let it speak, and most importantly, allow yourself to receive what is needed.
A Sacred Pause
Instead of rushing into resolutions or pushing past the remnants of the year, consider this as an invitation to pause. This time can become a sacred moment to connect with God, process the year behind you, and prepare your heart for what’s to come.
For me, I choose to use this time to reflect and “harvest” from my journal. Revisiting the highs and lows of the year helps me gain clarity on what God has been doing in my life. It also allows me to carry forward the lessons, blessings, and truths I don’t want to forget.
Two Reflective Questions
Here are two simple yet powerful questions to guide your pause:
1. What is something you want to remember from your past year?
Take a moment to reflect on the moments that shaped you. Maybe it was a breakthrough in a relationship, a prayer answered, or a season of growth in faith. Write it down or share it with someone.
“Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.” – 1 Chronicles 16:12
2. What is one thing you’re dreaming of for next year?
Dream with God about the year ahead. What is stirring in your heart? Perhaps it’s a goal, a deeper walk with Him, or a calling you’re sensing. Let this be a moment to align your desires with His plans.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

An Invitation to Share
This practice of pausing, reflecting, and dreaming is a gift you can give yourself during this unique time of year. I encourage you to set aside even 15 minutes to listen to your heart and God’s gentle voice.

A Closing Prayer
“Lord, thank You for the gift of time to pause and reflect in this season. Open my heart to remember the lessons and blessings You’ve given me this past year, and to dream boldly with You for the year ahead. Guide my thoughts and desires to align with Your will, and help me carry Your peace and presence into every moment. Amen.”
Take this in-between time to slow down, reflect, and prepare your heart for all that God has in store for you. Further helpful resources below…
