Don’t be a dog.
Nor a pig.
“A dog goes back to its own vomit” and “A scrubbed-up pig heads for the mud.” (2 Peter 2:22)
Peter wrote this in a letter to warn people of false teachers who were misguiding people away from truth. He was talking about how some people will hear the truth, follow it for awhile but if they truly aren’t internally transformed, they’ll go back to their old depravity.
Only God can turn dogs or pigs into clean animals.
Don’t try to be a clean animal on your own. If you try on your own, you will only go back to your vomit or go back to the mud.
God who has the power to raise the dead, has the power to transform a life. Ask for Him to transform yours.
Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (2 Peter 1:3,4)
